Training Puppies

Puppy Training for Hygiene

Puppies can cause havoc if they are not taught to take a leak or dump in the right place. It has been seen in recent years that pet dogs are in the habit of eating more than what their ancestors would have decades ago. Dog behaviour is a rapidly changing phenomenon in most of the western countries. Bulkier dogs are more frequent in households and that usually means that handling them can get difficult as the puppies grow into full size dogs. Toilet habits are the foremost on the training agenda. It is one of the primary habits that dog owners wish puppies to possess so that unhygienic mess and embarrassment in public is easily avoided.

Things to remember on training your puppy to maintain hygienic habits

  • Many sources suggest taking your puppy outdoors to train him in leaking. It must be understood that puppies might get intimidated by the street scenes in a city, with too many things to respond to. The stimulus of a puppy can be excited easily and taking a leak or dump can be difficult for the puppy due to a lack of a certain degree of relaxation. Starting early is however a necessity mainly for two reasons – most dogs would grow big and difficult to handle very quickly; and a ripe age is the only time to instil good habits.
  • Robot dogs / puppies have been a great way to let dogs emulate what its look alike behaves. It has been a craze in the pet world especially because it can perform most of the activities you would want your puppy to learn at an early age without too much difficulty. God buyers with a sober dog already in the house have it easy when a new puppy has been bought and needs to be trained.
  • It is important to train puppies to not venture out in to areas which can be infested with bacteria. Human children wear footwear and while they are out on the streets, we do not really have to bother about them venturing into marshy zones or those which may be breeding zones for various insects and bugs. Parks and green areas may have such zones, especially in wet climate. Puppies should be expected to not have knowledge of such required habits, and teaching them to keep themselves unsoiled, at least during the early years can be beneficial for its health.

  • For training purposes, it is important to realize the psychological barriers of a puppy in a human environment. They need a level of familiarity to deal with things besides getting accustomed to the human surroundings, especially in an urban domestic scene. Use of techniques and methods are usually different for different dogs even if they belong to one breed. Tempering a dog’s behaviour can help immensely and that would need someone who really loves dogs.
  • There can be times when nobody’s home. Finding a place to pee or dump can be puzzling for a puppy. The ways to prevent them from doing so at random places can be to restrict it within a smaller zone for a few hours. Bathrooms are a good idea if it is familiar with the commode. Gardens, laundry rooms and zones which can be cleaned easily are the best places to restrict your puppy to.
